Review – Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank

Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank

“But who, he wondered in a moment’s panic as her nearing heat began to assault him, who enforces the Enforcer?” -Jacob

  • 4 Stars
  • Paranormal Romance
  • Demons
  • First In A Series
  • Heat Level 3

Jacob is the first book of Frank’s Nightwalkers series. In this book we are introduced to a race of elemental demons that live a peaceful existence, except their sometimes uncontrollable lust for humans. It is Jacob the Enforcer’s job to make sure no demon hurts a human while overcome with the temporary madness of their lust.

Jacob has lived a solitary existence because of his duties as Enforcer. He isn’t exactly a crowd favorite because he’s the one that shows up when your urges cannot be controlled. There isn’t a single demon family that has not met with his punishment. This solitary existence is his duty and he carries the burden heavily on his shoulders.

Isabella is just a librarian who is drawn to the moonlight and knowledge. One night, while leaning out of her apartment window, she falls out and ends up in the safety Jacob’s arms. Their meeting goes beyond serendipity, it’s as if the universe literally forced them together. The story and their forbidden relationship builds from this point on.

I loved Jacob. He was strong, kind, intelligent, serious and sexy. He took duty to an extreme level of commitment, and I appreciated him even more for it. Him and Isabella were kind of an opposites attract couple. She liked to joke around with him to try and crack away a little bit of his serious nature. They complimented each other well. I did, at times, find Bella to be a little childish.

The story flowed easily and was quite enjoyable. I loved the different types of elemental demons presented and their unique abilities. I want to be a fire demon so I can travel as smoke! The author wove an addictive tale of love and suspense. I wanted more and more. The detail and thought that was put into building the world and back story was flawless.

This is paranormal romance at its finest, with just the right amount of mystery, action and heat. I think anyone would be able to find something they loved about this well crafted book. I will definitely continue on with this series. The next book is Gideon, and I love him already!

T5W – Characters We’d Invite To Our NYE Party

Top 5 Wednesday

Characters We’d Invite To Our New Year’s Eve Party!

Liam Edenhoff – Neighbors (Twin Estates #1) by Stylo Fantôme

He owns a sex club! How could he NOT be fun at a party? Liam is the guy that we all want to be around because of his infectious positive attitude and sexy charm. He will woo every woman at the party, including our very own Mistress. Maybe she would be willing to moonlight at his club?

Nora Sutherlin – The Original Sinners series by Tiffany Reisz

Our Mistress in red leather with her red riding crop is a necessity for any good party. She can punish the naughty and reward the good in a very naughty way. We think she would have Liam kissing her boots by midnight. Oh, to be a fly on the wall of that room in his club.

Rhysand, High Lord of The Night Court – A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses #2) by Sarah J Maas

Dark, brooding, killer smile. Rhysand will be the mysterious man in the corner, surveying the party. Once he realizes that it’s safe for him to drop his evil persona, his warmth, kindness and smile will light up the room. Back away, ladies! Jill and I get him at midnight for our kisses. Now we just need to figure out who goes first…

India “Indy” Savage – Rock Chick (Rock Chick #1) by Kristen Ashley

Always one to come to the aid of her friends, regardless of the circumstances, Indy excels at landing herself into trouble. However, she always does it in style. With her classic Rock-N-Roll T-Shirts, flashy belts and cowboy boots, Indy exudes cool. Her over the top personality will make her the life of the party. The fact that she owns an old, retro, cool book store is just icing on the cake.

Mal Ericson – Play (Stage Dive #2) by Kylie Scott

Mal is easily one of the most over the top and ridiculous characters I’ve ever read. He is loud, nonsensical and takes almost nothing seriously. I love him. At our NYE party he will be leading the countdown, at the top of his lungs, while standing on a table. Maybe we can talk him and his band mates into putting on an impromptu concert for us!

Who is on your NYE party list?

Cheers and Happy New Year!

T5W – Fictional Items We’d Give As Gifts

Top 5 Wednesday

This week, in the spirit of Christmas, our Top 5 Wednesday is…

Fictional Items We’d Give As Gifts

1. Kate Daniels’ Saber, Slayer

Kate Daniels is the bad ass heroine of Ilona Andrew’s Kate Daniels series of books. Kate doesn’t ever need anyone to fight her battles. She’s independent, courageous and completely fearless, and she doesn’t go anywhere without Slayer. Vampires beware; Slayer will melt your flesh.

And because every girl needs to be able to defend herself from paranormal dangers, Rebecca and I are just going to gift each other with Slayer this year.

Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews

2. Harry Potter’s Invisibility Cloak

Rebecca and I both thought of Harry’s cloak immediately. We can think of a few times that an invisibility cloak would have come in very handy to both of us, especially during the teenage years! I just need to be certain that it remains out of the hands of my children!

Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

3. Nora Sutherlin’s Little Red Riding Crop

Nora Sutherlin is known as Mistress Nora, Red Queen in Tiffany Reisz’s Original Sinners series. She’s the most feared Dominatrix in New York’s BDSM Underground.

All of our girlfriend’s are getting one of these! What woman hasn’t fantasized about being a crop wielding femme fatale at least once in her life?

The Original Sinners series by Tiffany Reisz

4. Isabelle Lightwood’s Electrum Whip/Serpent Bracelet

Isabelle is a character of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series. Her primary weapon of choice is her Electrum Whip that is disguised with Glamour as a Serpent Bracelet so that Mundanes are none the wiser. We can think of a few friends that would enjoy a piece of jewelry that transforms into a deadly weapon when needed.

The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare

5. Bella Swan’s Chevy Pickup Truck

I’m not certain who we’re going to gift it to because Rebecca and I both want it for ourselves. We both love old trucks!

Review – Bend (Vegas Heat #1) by Molly McLain

Bend (Vegas Heat #1) by Molly McLain

  • 4 Stars
  • Contemporary Romance
  • Police Officer
  • First In A Series
  • Heat Level 3

This was my first book by Molly McLain. It kept popping up, and I just wasn’t sure what to think about it. New author, a cop hero, takes place in Las Vegas (I used to live there. I’m always afraid authors are going to misrepresent the REAL Las Vegas, ya know, where people actually live). I finally decided I had to give it a go. The blurb sounded so good! I was not disappointed.

Kinsey is the tourism police chief’s daughter. She has a healthy respect and distaste for police officers, except for Sergeant Hardass. Could he stop pulling her over and looking so good doing it!? This is how the book begins, with our couple meeting at a “routine” traffic stop. Trent just can’t help himself. Kinsey should know better because she’s the chief’s daughter and that does not make her above the law. Their banter and the enemies to lovers plot kept me smiling.

The story unfolds in a very low angst and easy to follow story. It has heat, romance and a little mystery. I would have like a little bit more development at the end of the story, which is why I gave it 4 stars. It seemed to end a little abruptly, just as the story was getting really good. That being said, I would definitely recommend reading it. It was a fun and easy to read book. I will continue with the series because there are a lot of hot men in this book, and I need to know their stories.

A copy of Bend was given to me by the publisher for an honest review.

Cover Reveal – The Neighborhood by Stylo Fantome

Title: The Neighborhood
Series: Twin Estates #2
Author: Stylo Fantôme
Genre: Erotic Romance
Cover Design: Najla Qamber Designs
Release Date: January 17, 2017

Things a bad neighbor can do to you:1. Have loud parties late at night

2. Refuse to mow his lawn

3. Steal your newspapers

4. Rip your heart out and walk all over it

Katya Tocci is willing to admit that she may have bitten off more than she could chew.

Liam Edenhoff showed her a side of life she’d been missing out on – sex and friendship and tacos. But then he betrayed her.

Wulfric Stone taught her that big surprises can come from unexpected places – like from a surly, aggressive, withdrawn bastard. But then he broke her heart.

Now one of them wants forgiveness, and the other wants forever. And Katya? She just wants to forget.

Who knew neighbors could be so difficult?

This story contains scenes of a graphic sexual nature, multiple uses of coarse language, and quite possibly enough confusion to drive a normal person insane. Reader discretion is advised.

Author Bio
Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since … forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

Review – Neighbors by Stylo Fantome

Neighbors by Stylo Fantome

  • 5 Stars
  • Contemporary Romance
  • Suits? (Yeah, I’m going with that)
  • First In A Series
  • Heat Level 5

I honestly have been putting this review off because I just can’t find the words to explain how I feel about this book. What I do know is that it OWNS me. I find my mind wandering off to this book with somewhat disturbing frequency. I am DESPERATE for book 2. I’m not even sure my delicate psyche can wait another month. Ms. Fantome, I NEED ANSWERS.

Katya is a neat, orderly, motherly dresser and personality. Exciting to her is working on her next big baking job. She is a highly sought after and talented rising star in the baking world. Her life is perfect, right? Then one day her outgoing roommate encourages her to join a dating site. Katya creates her profile, all the while grumbling about how silly it is. Once the profile is done, and Katya is on her way, her “friend” decides to spice up the profile and make it racy. Basically, she turns Katya into a dirty, freaky, slut and posts it. I say “friend” because watch one of my friends do something like this to me. They would be out, immediately.

Later that day Katya starts to receive inquiries from the dating profile and quickly finds out what her “friend” did. I’m honestly not sure how to go on without giving anymore of this fabulous story away. Just read the book. You NEED this book. Then you will NEED answers. The book ends on one of the most brutal cliffies ever.

Patience is not my virtue. I am struggling to contain myself until I can get more Liam and Wulf in my life. I have purposely left them out of this review because there is NO WAY I can do them justice. I just can’t. The sequel is supposed to be out in the middle of January, and I might have to call in sick the next day to read it. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves romance or books or can read and is above the age of 18.

P.S. If you’ve read this book, I want to know who you love more! I’m a Wulf kind of girl. My kryptonite is a man in a suit. So. Sexy.

Review – Managed (Idol #2) by Kristen Callihan

Managed (Idol #2) by Kristen Callihan

  • 4.5 Stars
  • Contemporary Romance
  • Suit/Rockstar
  • Recent Release
  • Heat Level 3

First let me start by saying, I’m a Kristen Callihan fan. I’ve read a few of her books this year and loved them all. Managed was no exception. There is something incredibly satisfying about seeing a strong, powerful, intensely self-contained man crumble. Oh, how I love to watch the mighty fall. That’s probably why I love suit romance books so much.

Gabriel “Scottie” Scott keeps the world at arms length, even his best friends, who are also his chosen family. He is stern and all business all the time, until Sophie ends up as his seatmate on an international flight. Sophie is vivacious, witty and extremely hard to ignore. Her charisma and charm lure Gabriel in from takeoff.

The banter in this book is some of the best ever. It’s fun, clever and hilarious. I spent most of this book with a smile on my face. I loved watching the connection grow between Sophie and Gabriel. It was a slow burn romance, which was exactly perfect for these two. It was in the little, relationship building details that the author’s talent really shined through.

The members of Kill John, the band Gabriel manages, were amazing, just as before in Idol. I’m glad we got to know them a little better in this installment. I cannot WAIT for Jax’s book. I love him and call dibs. I will be pre-ordering book 3 as soon as there’s a link. I love this group of characters and look forward to reading each of their love stories.

Review – The Vampire’s Mail Order Bride by Kristen Painter

The Vampire’s Mail Order Bride by Kristen Painter

  • 4 Stars
  • Paranormal Romance
  • Vampires
  • Heat Level 1

I picked this book up for free on Amazon and just kind of found myself reading it. I wasn’t even sure what I was getting myself into. It was a pleasant surprise, to say the least, that I liked this book so much. The story was witty, entertaining and amusing.

The story begins with our poor heroine caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Delaney finds herself on the lamb after witnessing her boss murder someone. She has no place to go and is running out of time. This is when she discovers a mail order bride business. She decides to steal another woman’s file and take her place as the arranged potential mate of a man in Nocturne Falls. What she doesn’t realize is that Nocturne Falls is a place for the supernatural to hide in plain sight. It’s a town that is Halloween themed. Yes, you read that right. Halloween 24/7/365. What does this place not ACTUALLY exist!?! I would move there tomorrow! The author clearly put thought and care into creating the town, and I felt like it was a real place she was describing.

Once she meets Hugh, a 400 year old vampire, sparks begin to fly quickly. Hugh is your typical broody dead guy. I enjoyed his dry tone and over thinking self. The story takes a lot of twists and turns from this point, but never descends into nonsense. I was glad because it felt like it could at some points. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it if you are looking for something light, funny and easy to read.

I will definitely check out the rest of the series. I have been eyeballing book 2 since finishing this. There is a spin-off series also. I just picked up book one of that series.

Review – Flash Bang by Meghan March

Flash Bang by Meghan March

4 Stars

  • Menage
  • Beginning of the apocalypse (no zombies)
  • Military Heroes
  • Heat Level 4
  • For Readers Age 18+

I’ve recently gotten into menage/polyamorous books, and this one did not disappoint. What’s better than an Alpha male protector? TWO of them, of course. This book starts off with our leading lady going about her daily life in downtown Chicago until BAM! All electronics have stopped working and a plane crashes into a skyscraper. This drew me into the story immediately. I was like wtf is happening right now!? I need books to be fast starters, so this definitely delivered. From the very first chapter, Rowan established herself as a strong woman and that never faltered throughout the book. I really loved that about her and how the author held to her strong personality.

The story gets intense from this point while Rowan struggles to survive in a world quickly descending into chaos. Enter Graham and Zach. I can’t decide which one I want to lick first. Both are Alpha, hot and just the right amount of sensitive, from there their personalities are night and day. I loved that they both fulfilled a different personality/partner type that we all fantasize about.

The book flowed seamlessly, and I never found myself mentally drifting away from the story. I definitely want to continue the series to see what happens in such an unknown set of circumstances. This book does end with a cliffy to set up the next installment. I’m not sure if they will all be about Rowan and her men. The next installment is a novella about other characters, that is also a menage. Either way, I’m definitely invested in the future of this story.
